Lymphoedema Care and Support
We offer a range of treatments, care and support for people affected by lymphoedema, and those at risk of lymphoedema. Lymphoedema is a type of swelling that develops when the lymphatic system is unable to effectively drain fluid from areas of the body. There are many different causes of lymphoedema.
Although lymphoedema can be a lifelong condition, it can be successfully controlled, and problems avoided. If you have lymphoedema, you might be looking for:
- Information to help you better understand the condition and build confidence in self-managing your lymphoedema
- Treatment for your lymphoedema
- Advice to help you improve the health of your lymphatic system, reduce swelling and other symptoms
- Training and information for carers and family members
The variety of treatments we can provide for you include: manual lymph drainage, measuring for compression stockings and sleeves, compression bandaging, kinesio-taping, and massage to improve scars and tissue restrictions. We will work at a pace that is right for you, talk with you about treatment choices, and take time to identify your individual needs. We can also give you information on how to contact your nearest NHS lymphoedema service.
We undertake home visits throughout Edinburgh, the Lothians, Lanarkshire and the Borders, and are registered with several medical insurance companies.
We can also provide education and training for health and social care practitioners within a variety of organisations including the NHS, voluntary sector and nursing homes.
